Titus brings a very personal approach to reeds performance and composition. He is presently investing his energy in both improvised music and film music composition. In the jazz field he has performed as leader and sideman in various ensembles in Canada, Europe and the US including performances at international jazz festivals in Canada and the UK. Titus co lead the group Delawareness a chamber jazz trio that played extensively in Toronto and Montreal and at festivals. That project culminated in the recording of the CD Excellent in Woe featuring Titus with George Koller on bass and Larry Lewis on classical guitar. In early 2006 he formed a jazz group, The Titus Abbott Collective which has been received enthusiastically wherever they perform. The collective which has an evolving personnel comes out of the vibrant Alt Jazz scene of NYC and Brooklyn presenting creative improvised music that is always searching for a fresh “in the moment” connection. Collaborations include performances with the outstanding pianists Curtis Clark and Frank Carlberg and the late Oud Master Al Gardner.
Film music has been Titus' passion for the previous 10 years since completing studies at the University of Montreal with a specialization in Film Music Composition. He has worked on innovative projects in the US and Europe receiving Composer and Sound Designer credits. A particularly interesting ongoing project has been developing a score and complete sound design for Dziga Vertov's Russian classic silent film, The Man With The Movie Camera.
